Record Breaking, but well Behaved Hurricane?

Bertha is now the longest lived tropical storm in the Atlantic in the month of July.  Sixteen days and counting.

Bertha continues to spin away out in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Since becoming a tropical storm back on July 3rd, Bertha hasn’t been a threat to anyone except shipping.  It did make a move toward Bermuda, but swerved away.

Here is a map of the track of the storm, which is exceptionally long-lived for a July storm.  According to the forecasters at the National Hurricane Center, if Bertha can stay at least a tropical storm through Sunday (7-20) it will become one of the top 10 longest lived Atlantic storms, regardless of month.  Hurricane Ginger in September and October of 1971 stayed a storm for 27 days!
