Look, Up in the Sky!

No, it’s not a bird, or a plane, or even Superman.  Instead, it’s the super planet, Jupiter.

Jupiter is making a very bright appearance in the sky these days, as the planet is in conjunction with the Earth and the sun.  That means that the three objects are in a direct line, so that Jupiter rises in the east, just as the sun is setting in the west.  Jupiter continues to rise through the evening, as the brightest point of light in the night-time sky.  You can’t miss it.  Just look up.  By midnight it rises to it’s highest point overhead, and then drops back below the horizon just as the sun is rising.
