Will We See Ice This Weekend?

We will have a warm and windy day Thursday, with gusty south winds 15-30 mph, and some gusts near 40. High fire danger is expected, especially west of the Metroplex.

A strong cold front will arrive, probably during the pre-dawn hours early Friday morning. Temperatures will quickly drop into the 40’s, and ultimately into the 30’s late in the day. At the same time, a cold rain will begin across the area. Expect the miserable, cold rainy weather to continue Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night. The rain should be ending by Sunday morning.

Of course, the critical factor is whether our temperatures drop to freezing. And right now, that doesn’t seem likely. I am calling for a low of 33 Saturday morning and 35 Sunday morning.

Things could change in the next 48 hours, and we will be watching the situation closely. But right now, I expect a cold rain, and no ice for the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Perhaps there is a slight chance for some icing in the far northwestern portions of our viewing area. But even there, I don’t anticipate major problems at this time.
