La Niña Winter in North TX

January 13, 2008 at 1:26 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

The La Niña winter continues.

La Niña is an atmospheric pattern that is characterized by many different things, but most notably, a cooler than normal temperature in the Eastern Pacific.

La Niña affects Texas as well, and this winter has been a classic La Niña winter. Mostly normal or above normal temperatures, and mostly below normal precipitation.

This should continue for the next several weeks. While we may get a cold snap or two, or even a brief bout of wintry weather-winter will continue to be mild, with no huge storm systems or arctic outbreaks.

For more on La Niña (and its counterpart El Niño) feel free to head over the the National Weather Service web page: http://www.srh.noaa.gov/fwd/txelnino.htm
