Chasing History: DFW Rainfall Update

December 9, 2007 at 10:41 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Thanksgiving weekend we dealt with two straight days of a cold rain. This week we expect four straight days of an on & off cold rain. Parts of North Texas will see some ice mixed in with the rain and Freezing Rain Advisories have been issued for our extreme northwest suburbs.

Although the rain is not expected to be consistently heavy, there could be a few heavier showers from time to time thru Wednesday night. This means our already wet year could begin to approach record territory before time runs out on December 31st.

As of 5pm Sunday, DFW Airport has 48.08″ for the year so far. That makes 2007 the 5th wettest year on record with three weeks to go. The wettest year ever was 1991 with 53.54″. 5″ is not likely or expected this week, but we may chip away and end up in the top four or higher.

Here’s a complete list of the top ten wettest years for the metroplex:

1991: 53.54″
1932: 51.03″
1973: 50.62″
1957: 50.49″
2007: 48.08″
2004: 47.57″
1914: 46.64″
1919: 45.74″
1946: 45.39″
1990: 45.27″
