Is it Really Autumn?

October 14, 2005 at 11:03 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Autumn officially began on September 22. And usually we expect the arrival of fall to bring increases in rain and decreases in temperature. And certainly it is not as hot as it was in September. Last month was our hottest September ever, with an average high of 95.2 degrees. On September 28, we hit a record 104 degrees, the hottest day in 2005.

The warm and dry weather pattern has continued into October. We actually have had four days this month with measurable rain at DFW Airport. But each time, DFW received only 0.01″, as the heavy rain missed the Metroplex. So midway through the month, with a total of only 0.04″, we appear to be headed for one of our warmest and driest Octobers, as well.

For the year, our rainfall total stands at just 17.77″. The average is 27.33″ at this point, so we are now almost ten inches below our normal rainfall for the year. And the prospect for the next week doesn’t look good. We should stay warm and dry through next Wednesday. But it does look like we may see another cold front by Thursday, the 20th. Let’s hope that begins to change our luck.
