New Member of our Weather Team!

If you have watched our weekend morning newscasts the past few weeks, you undoubtedly noticed a new face. That is James Aydelott, the newest member of our Weather Team.

Last January, we bid good-bye to Krista Villarreal, who took a new job in Pittsburgh. We hated to see her leave, but it was a great opportunity for her. And the opening created when she left, gave us the opportunity to hire James Aydelott. We actually hired James in February. But contractual obligations at his previous station in Tulsa meant that he couldn’t start work here until the first of June. We hated to be short-handed in the weather department the past few months, and we wouldn’t have waited that long for just anyone. But we thought we could be patient, if that’s what it took to get James here. We really believe he was worth the wait!

James grew up in Tulsa, but his family actually has a Metroplex connection. His parents met and were married right here in Fort Worth. Growing up in Tornado Alley, he caught the “weather bug” early. He went to the University of Oklahoma for his Bachelor of Science degree in meteorology. As a student, he chased (and caught) tornadoes all across Oklahoma and Texas. After graduation, James worked at TV stations in Savannah, Georgia, in Wichita, Kansas and in Sherman, Texas, before returning home to Tulsa. He spent the last ten years forecasting for the Tulsa TV market. So he has lots of experience forecasting severe storms here in the southern plains. James told me that this was the only station that could have convinced him to leave his home in Tulsa. He was eager to join a top ten TV station, but only one with a legacy for excellence in weather forecasting, and that means NBC5. He says he doesn’t ever want to have to move again. And that suits me fine. I hope James can follow in my footsteps and spend the rest of his career here at NBC5.

In his time away from work, James enjoys flying. He is a licensed and intrument-rated private pilot. He also enjoys cooking, especially TexMex, Italian and desserts. (We can’t wait for him to bring some of those desserts to work!)

James says he is overjoyed to be here. And we are thrilled to have him as part of our team. His level of meteorological education and experience is a perfect fit for NBC5.
